stuff i like (december 6, 2024)

my last stuff i like was 9 months ago, a whole baby ago!

my interests haven't been very strong as of late. it's been a real floaty past few months. my memory has also degraded greatly since falling off my reading habit and swapping my ereader for horrendous amounts of screentime. it's bad, i know, but i'm trying to go back to my old ways when reading marked the start and end of my days.

🎶 a selection from my november & december playlists

i don't revisit my monthly playlists often or at all, really. when the month is over, i move onto the next one. it's unfortunate because all of the songs i've ever added to those playlists deserve more love. i have no one to blame but myself, but i'm also blaming over production and the need for everything to be shiny and new. before spotify, i was content with playing the same playlists. so, to savor my recent favorite songs a little longer, i'll be making note of them here. here's some of them from november and the start of december, mostly R&B, pop, and indie pop:

📺 Abbott Elementary, a show

i thought this show would have the same fate as the rest of the shows on my to-watch list, i.e., remaining unwatched. it's thanks to my flights this year that i now find myself halfway through season two. 7+ hour long flights will push you into making a choice!

i was a little apprehensive about watching the first episode since i had already seen other workplace mockumentaries like The Office and Superstore. what if it was an unsuccessful copy? maybe i would be tired of the genre's formula: an odd ensemble of characters, the inevitable romance between the two type A characters, the mysterious and weird character whose backstory isn't explored, the fourth wall breaks with the occasional stares at the camera, etc. but who am i to complain about predictable genres? i wasn't wrong, though; it follows the formula to a tee. i just have to accept that i can't resist slow burn romances no matter how predictable.

🎮 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch), a video game

i'm only 7 years late. a belated thank you to BOTW for inspiring the boom in open world games and game mechanics like stamina bars when scaling walls and swimming, traveling long distances with flying contraptions, and puzzle quests. i think it was BOTW that popularized them in recent times? who knows—my favorite game is Overcooked! 2. i only played games inspired by the source material, like Yonder and A Short Hike, before i ever touched the original, but i am here now. i've arrived and that's all that matters. i finally understand what everyone means when they rave about this game.

🥛 banana spinach smoothie, a drink

my diet severely lacks fruit and veg. to fix that, i've been drinking banana smoothies. how healthy they actually are, i'm not too sure, but they do make me feel like i'm doing something right. the ingredients: ice cubes, 1 banana, a handful of spinach, maple syrup, flax seed, walnuts, and oat milk.
