my quality of life improvements
if i am in a situation where i have to slightly inconvenience someone, i am retreating and keeping my mouth shut. if i have to use up any kind of resource, be it cash, energy, or an item, i find a way to keep my expenditures at zero. in either situation i grin and bear it. but all this energy i spend circumventing always ends up inconveniencing someone anyway (me). no more i say!
below are quality of life improvements i stand by, recently added to my list, or wish i took advantage of more often. i divided them by the type of resource they use, whether that's energy, anxiety/social battery, or money.
β energy, β comfort
like flossing, just do it.
- getting up to cook
- separating ingredients into containers and bowls because a clean workstation is worth it
- a glass of water at the bedside
- bringing earplugs everywhere
ββ anxiety, β social battery, ββ comfort
a mighty hurdle must be cleared to obtain total relief.
- complaining, e.g., the wrong food order, a too-big shoe, someone playing their music too loud, the A/C not working in your hotel room during a heatwave (the electrician has to enter your room and itβs awkward but itβll be worth it)
- asking for a bag instead of struggling to carry purchases back home
- asking them to repeat themselves
- booking that appointment
β money, ββ comfort
not a top priority but still makes a world of a difference.
- a nightstand
- a vanity mirror and full-length mirror
- an upgraded seat on a long-haul flight
- a cable management box
- physical books in addition to an ereader because tactile stimulation is important
- buying a new journal when the current journal just isnβt working
- a bag-specific pen
- multiple bag-specific medical masks
- a Swiss Army Knife (i lost mine ugh)
ββ energy, ββ comfort / QOL improvements i have to unlock again
once upon a dream, i bore the fruit of these endeavors.
- sleeping before midnight (it's 2 am)
- having a regular gym routine
- having a consistent creative practice
- flossing
